Cathy Wickett

I have been drawing and carrying a camera around for as long as I can remember. Capturing, observing, and accumulating. I am inspired by light, shadow, colour, texture, and patterns whether it be on a city street, at the beach or in a flower. Especially flowers.

Photography for me is a gathering tool. I have always walked, often with just my camera, spending hours exploring, looking for an interesting composition, a fleeting moment or the perfect sunset.

Now retired I am finding time to focus on my painting practice. Time to work on the skills required to translate the images from my observations and imagination into the language of painting.

My influences are the many artists I have met along the way, the prairies where I lived much of my life and now the beauty of the west coast where I find my daily inspiration.

Memories of Victoria Beach

My memories of Victoria Beach are deeply ingrained as we started taking family holidays at VB when I was not yet 1. Many, many happy memories. Sunset strolls were a ritual. This painting is from one of those summer evenings.

This painting was donated to The Lake Winnipeg Foundation.
